Supportive
Personalised care and education is at the heart of what we do. We focus on each individual child’s strength’s, passions and interests as they emerge and create individually tailored learning experiences. Every family is different and have different needs at different times, we aim to work closely together with our families with open lines of communication, working in partnership, offering extra support and guidance towards specialist outside agencies as needed. We use online learning journeys to record your child’s day and progress, uploading their adventures at nursery for you to see. Families can also upload their own adventures to share with us. We hold twice yearly parent consultations and an open door at all times.
Unique
We offer families a flexible approach to childcare by not having set sessions and have the freedom to be able to offer a nursery place which is individual to each families needs. We keep to generous staff ratios and never lone work. We have CCTV in all rooms. We follow the Curiosity Approach which seeks to inspire awe and wonder by encouraging the use of natural materials and resources, so the children can harness their natural curiosity and imagination.
Nurturing
Children’s development and wellbeing as individuals is our primary focus. We pride ourselves in providing a warm and nurturing environment, full of exciting learning opportunities where each child can reach their full potential, develop a lifetime love of learning and be confident in their abilities. We encourage and reward willingness to try so children build confidence and feel pride in their attempts and learn from when things don’t go quite right.
Staff
We have a dedicated, friendly team of highly skilled practitioners who all genuinely have a passion for working with children and are committed to ensuring they flourish and thrive. We continuously seek to develop the knowledge, skills and qualifications of our team and set high standards for professional conduct and practice.
Homely
We strive to create a home-from-home feel in our setting so children feel safe, secure and listened to. We believe that children’s happiness, fun and laughter are key ingredients to a successful and meaningful learning experience.
Inclusive
We welcome all families without discrimination and strive to do our very best to ensure our setting can meet the needs of all children and families. We are committed to providing a fully inclusive and supportive environment for all. We have an excellent special needs co-ordinator who has a wealth of experience and has been recognised in Lincolnshire for her outstanding work at Sunshine.
Not for profit
We are a registered charity which puts the needs of our families before profits. This enables us to better support our families by offering flexibility and a range of different options to suit different families needs. Any profits made are put straight back into developing our provision. We are led by a committee which we encourage our families to become involved with and hold a yearly AGM and family fun day. We want to work together to build a more caring and connected community.
Education
We aim to be inclusive and sustainable, both environmentally and financially. We seek excellence, honesty and integrity in all aspects of our work.
Here at Sunshine we want to develop little people with personality, imagination and a sense of adventure. We know children are naturally inquisitive, and we follow ‘The Curiosity Approach’ ethos to promote curiosity, awe and wonder in Early years . It creates beautiful and aesthetically pleasing play spaces for children using loose parts and open ended resources. This approach teaches children how to think not what to think. It’s about a return to nature and nurture, back to basics with the use of wooden resources and natural play based learning. Take this as a scenario; – there is only so much a child can do with a plastic train set, one zoom round the track and it’s done, they move on to something else. Compare this to the countless adventures they can have with cardboard tubes, stones, bamboo canes, metal goblets, silver tea sets and wooden curtain rings. The ‘Curiosity Approach’ has a website and Facebook page if you would like to find out more.
We recognise the importance of good manners and respect and seek to provide a strong foundation in these to prepare our children for life outside nursery. Throughout our nursery we consistently instil the 6 golden rules to the children of; We are kind and helpful; We are gentle; We listen; We look after our things; We are honest; We try hard.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is the government standards for the learning development and care for children aged 0-5
